Dr. Sandeep Sidana, Psychiatrist in Howard County, Maryland
Dr. Sandeep Sidana is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than 18 years of experience treating adults in a wide variety of clinical settings. Over the course of his career, he has worked in outpatient psychiatry, hospital-based care, emergency settings, and intensive outpatient programs. He has also held significant administrative and leadership responsibilities, including several years directing a psychiatric department.
This range of experience has given Dr. Sidana the opportunity to care for patients with a broad spectrum of psychiatric concerns and at very different stages of illness and recovery. His work has included the evaluation and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, attention and concentration difficulties, trauma-related symptoms, and other psychiatric conditions that can interfere with relationships, work, health, and everyday life.
Approach to Treatment
Dr. Sidana believes effective psychiatric care begins with understanding the individual patient rather than simply identifying a diagnosis. He takes a collaborative approach to treatment and works with patients to develop a plan that takes into account their symptoms, medical history, life circumstances, preferences, and treatment goals.
Dr. Sidana brings extensive experience in psychiatric diagnosis and medication management across a broad range of conditions, including Depression, Anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, Bipolar disorder, and Sleep disorders. He is also comfortable working with patients whose diagnoses have been difficult to clarify or whose symptoms have not fully responded to previous treatment. He believes that treatment plans should be individualized and may involve medication, psychotherapy, attention to medical and lifestyle factors, or collaboration with other clinicians involved in a patient’s care. He also incorporates psychotherapeutic techniques into visits when they are helpful and for patients who would benefit from more dedicated therapeutic work, psychotherapy can also become a larger component of treatment.
Medication can be an important part of psychiatric treatment, and Dr. Sidana has extensive experience with psychiatric medication management. When medication is appropriate, he believes in prescribing thoughtfully, being cautious about polypharmacy, monitoring benefits and side effects, and making adjustments based on the patient's response rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
Clinical Services
Dr. Sidana provides psychiatric evaluations, ongoing medication management, and psychotherapy for adults. He is comfortable working with both patients who are seeking psychiatric treatment for the first time and those who have received treatment previously but are looking for a new psychiatrist or a fresh perspective on their care.
Dr. Sidana values a respectful and collaborative relationship with his patients and believes that good psychiatric treatment should help people not only reduce symptoms, but also function better in the areas of life that matter to them.
